Appalachian Regional Healthcare is Hiring a CLINICAL NURSE MANAGER Near Hazard, KY

Overview

The Clinical Nurse Manager, working with Nurse Managers, is accountable for the supervision of nursing services for certain assigned nursing units to provide safe, effective and efficient nursing care. This position is an important part of the Management Team and the responsibilities for the position include: assigning, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating clinical care for the assigned unit(s). This position is evaluated on the basis of objective measurable criteria, including maximizing the personal abilities and competence of staff nurses, licensed practical nurses and other personnel assigned to the unit(s) for which the Clinical Nurse Manager is responsible.

Responsibilities

Outlined below are the primary responsibilities for this position. This list is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties performed, and therefore, its content should not be read to restrict additional management and supervisory functions that a Clinical Nurse Manager may carry out in meeting the responsibilities of this position.

  • Develop, implement and evaluate unit(s) goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and standards of care, which contribute to the achievement of unit(s) objectives.
  • Oversee and coordinate the activities and job duties of unit assigned personnel to achieve assigned objectives for quality results, customer/patient satisfaction, cost-effectiveness and compliance with fiscal budget.
  • Incorporate total quality management concepts into unit operations.
  • Assign work to staff nurses, licensed practical nurses, nurse aides, nursing service clerks, monitor technicians and other necessary personnel to meet patient care objectives.
  • Ensure continuity of patient care by planning staff assignments through evaluation of the competency, education and training of unit personnel compared to patient care needs.
  • Develop effective communications between unit personnel, physicians and other Community employees to assure continuity, coordination and collaboration in delivering appropriate health care services.
  • Maintain proficiency with respect to applicable technologies to permit informed recommendations regarding new services, products and equipment.
  • Interview, select, evaluate, discipline and terminate unit personnel, or recommend such action, as necessary, consistent with Community policies and procedures.
  • Assure that assigned employees receive proper orientation and attend in-service training that is required for such employees to maintain proper licensure or certification.
  • Maintain personnel records and related information as required.
  • Develop work schedules for unit(s) assigned, including vacation, leaves of absence, call-in, call-off, and other time off requirements.
  • Responsibly direct and supervise all labor relations activities in the assigned unit(s).
  • Assist in Preparation or area/department/unit budgets, routine and special reports and other documents as required.
  • Attend management meetings and participate in formulating management and supervisory personnel policies and procedures.
  • Apply advance knowledge with respect to clinical matters, serving as a role model and resource, including performing direct patient care as necessary.
  • Direct, oversee, and assist in the delivery of patient care with respect to assigned unit(s) including, but not limited to such functions as follows:
    • Assist in cases of emergency.
    • Train new, inexperienced and present assigned personnel by instruction and demonstration of safe or proper working procedures.
    • Assist assigned personnel in the performance of a task when requested by such personnel.
    • Assist assigned personnel in correcting, adjusting or controlling new equipment during installation or testing periods.
    • Assist assigned personnel in meeting patient care requirements where undo delay would interrupt safe patient care, until other assistance is available.
    • Fill in for assigned personnel to avoid interruption in safe patient care until additional assigned personnel are located and available for work.
    • Perform or assist in the performance of clinical treatments, procedures, and total patient care which may require expert skills and judgment in accordance with established standards.
    • Perform duties related to patient care not otherwise assigned to the bargaining unit.

    Qualifications

    Graduation from an approved school of nursing and maintain current non-limited license in assigned State.

    BS or MSN preferred; a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience, five (5) years preferred, with demonstrated management potential and proficient clinical skills.
